Canadian
Relief Foundation is committed to the efficient,
objective and professional delivery of humanitarian
assistance by all of its volunteers.
The Sphere Project was launched in 1997
by a group of humanitarian NGOs and the Red
Cross and Red Crescent movement. Sphere is
based on two core beliefs: first, that all
possible steps should be taken to alleviate
human suffering arising out of calamity and
conflict, and second, that those affected by
disaster have a right to life with dignity
and therefore a right to assistance (see www.sphereproject.org). It is a key
eligibility requirement by the Canadian
International Development Agency (CIDA) and
other government funding agencies to
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

| Description: |
In the words of the SPHERE Project, "Sphere was launched in 1997 by a group of humanitarian NGOs and the Red Cross
and Red Crescent movement.
Sphere is based on two core
beliefs: first, that all possible
steps should be taken to alleviate
human suffering arising out
of calamity and conflict, and
second, that those affected
by disaster have a right to
life with dignity and therefore
a right to assistance. Sphere
is three things: a handbook,
a broad process of collaboration
and an expression of commitment
to quality and accountability."
SPHERE standards is an important
NGO eligibility requirement
for the Canadian International
Development Agency (CIDA) and
other international agencies
for humanitarian project funding.
Up until now, SPHERE training
was not easily available in
Canada and was accessible only
to a select few. Canadian Relief
Foundation has taken the lead
in this important field by
offering this valuable training
to all humanitarian organizations
and interested individuals
in North America so as to improve
the efficiency and humane delivery
of humanitarian aid during
national and international
crises.
For
more information on SPHERE,
visit www.sphereproject.org.
CRF
volunteers wishing to take
on a Team Leader role during
international deployments
will be required to have
full SPHERE training.
